BUMC Organist to Perform

BUMC organist Dr. Gregg Bunn will be the guest soloist on the November Chapel Series. He will perform 3 sonatas By W.A. Mozart. Other works by Holst, Albinoni and local composer Don Hart are also scheduled to be performed.

Atlantic Ensemble 4th Series Concert

East Meets West

The NEXUS String quartet will perfrom the 3rd concert in our Chapel Series at BUMC Chapel August 15th at 4:00. This concert will features works from Eastern Europe including a work by Russian-born Nashville resident Olga Korovina-Harris as well as Dvorak’s incredible “American Quartet”. Rounding out the program is Haydn's "Quinten" quartet.

Nexus goes Latin

The Nexus Chamber Orchestra will perform a Latin-themed concert July 18th at 4:00 as part of its "Chapel Classics" series at the wonderful Brentwood United Methodist Church Chapel. The free concert will feature a number of Latin works for chamber orchestra as well as a selection of opera excerpt favorites. Featured composer is Carole Rabinowitz and featured soloists are Carole Rabinowitz and Conni Ellisor.

The Nexus Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce that they were able to raise $640 (Alan did not know he was covering the "0" in the picture!) at their recent concert to benefit the Nashville Musicians Association Flood Relief Fund.  As everyone is aware, the recent floods hit Nashville hard and it's music community was no exception.  Many lost the instruments and equipment necessary to perform and make a living.  The NMA Flood Relief Fund was set up to aid these musicians to get them back up and playing as soon as possible.  We thank our many patrons for their support of this worthy cause! Nexus Chamber Orchestra performs today Studio players will accept flood relief donations at free concert By Bonnie Burch • THE TENNESSEAN • June 27, 2010   BRENTWOOD — Some of Nashville's top studio players are showing their classical sides. The Nexus Chamber Orchestra, made up of string musicians whose "day jobs" include playing along with the likes of Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and Kid Rock, launches with its first concert at 4 p.m. today in Brentwood United Methodist Church's chapel. "Not to say that playing in studios isn't great. But from time to time, we just like to get together to play music written for our instruments. We really need to have another outlet to keep our chops up," said Brentwood violinist Catherine Umstead who founded the new orchestra along with her husband, Alan, also a violinist. Many of these same studio musicians also are classically trained with diplomas from some of the county's top music schools including Juilliard, Eastman, Oberlin and Indiana. The couple often was invited to play special shows at BUMC such as for Christmas or spring celebration concerts when the church's musical director, David Keith, suggested that they get some friends together to present a concert series. That's where the idea of Nexus was born. Keith will be conducting the first concert, which will feature works of Corelli, Mozart and "Reveries" by local composer David Sartor. Future concerts also will include music by a composer with local ties, Umstead said. Although admission is free, this first concert is also a benefit for the Nashville Musicians Association Flood Relief Fund. Not only did many locals lose their homes in the early May floods but many also had musical instruments, the equipment necessary for their livelihoods, damaged beyond repair. Those who wish to donate to the cause can do so at the orchestra's debut or contribute directly at the Nashville Musicians Association's website at www.nashvillemusicians.org. The Nexus Chamber Orchestra has set their schedule the upcoming series of free chamber orchestra concerts. Nexus will perform a free concert the 3rd Sunday of each month at 4:00 as part of its "Chapel Classics" series. All concerts in this series will be held in the beautiful (and great sounding!) Brentwood United Methodist Church Chapel. Come hear the best local talent that middle Tennessee has to offer!

The Nexus Chamber Orchestra, comprised of some of Nashville’s top recording studio players, will make its debut at Brentwood United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 27, at 4:00 p.m. It will be the first of many concerts scheduled as part of a concert series to be hosted by Brentwood United Methodist Church and will be conducted by the church’s music director, David Keith. The concerts will all be free to the public, the first one being a benefit concert for the Nashville Musicians Flood Relief Fund to benefit local musicians, many of whom lost not only their homes, but their instruments as well. The concert will feature works by Corelli, Mozart, Warlock and “Reveries” by local composer David Sartor. The group, founded by studio violinist Alan Umstead, will be Williamson County’s first professional chamber orchestra. The musicians, who are graduates of some of the top music schools in the country such as Juilliard, Eastman, Oberlin and Indiana, are all fortunate enough to be making their living in the studios of Nashville playing with the likes of Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, and Kid Rock. The NCO welcomes the opportunity to play classical music and music by some of the area’s talented local composers and arrangers. Future concerts will feature other works by local composers Sartor, Conni Ellisor and John Mock.
